Coaching Conversations

The 2017 member survey suggested a need for more frequent, informal gathering of coaches to get together outside of the regular monthly meetings.  The vision of "Coaching Conversations" is to afford coaches both new and experienced, an additional opportunity to share best coaching practices, experiences and challenges so as to develop and grow professionally in a relaxed environment.  Each session will be facilitated by an experienced coach from our chapter and will focus on a specific skill or competency that relates to the "art" and process of coaching.  There will be group conversations and experiential exercises.  This programming is free to Chapter members and affiliates whom can bring quests that are interested in exploring the coaching profession.

Topic: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Team and Group Coaching

Team and group coaching are two options a coach might employ when providing various types of coaching expertise to a corporate, nonprofit, governmental, fraternal or faith-based organization. Team and group coaching can be powerful additions to a coaching portfolio. When done correctly, individual clients as well as the team and group, can experience aha's and mindset shifts which may lead to previously unplanned but desired and inspired results. Coaches are sometimes hesitant to move beyond the one-on-one coaching to include small groups or intact teams. We sometimes stumble on practical issues like meeting places, rules of engagement, and measurable outcomes. The focus of this conversation is on differentiating between group and team coaching, providing insight into managing the changed dynamics when multiple coaches are involved, and determining what is necessary to deliver a powerful experience for the coachee.

In this Coaching Conversation, we will explore:
  • The ways in which group and team coaching are similar and differ;
  • Benefits and advantages of offering group coaching; team coaching
  • Challenges in offering coaching to more than one individual at a time
  • Best practices in managing group dynamics
  • Potential red flags in offering group and/or team coaching
  • What are the best ways for a coach to manage group dynamics?
